French and Spanish are Romance languages and originate from Latin, making them very similar languages. Students learn to read, write, speak and understand the language. We also study the culture of the countries and people who speak the language. Our district recently adopted new curriculum, En español for the Spanish classes and Discovering French Nouveau for the French classes. Our students have a unique advantage in their language study in that they have two years to complete the first year of high school language. The extra year allows us to cover material in more depth than is normally possible in a one year program. I feel this gives our students an edge when they get to the high school. Not only are they a year ahead of other freshmen, but they are also one year ahead of the students in the second year language classes. Students can expect 20-30 minutes of homework each night. It is vital to keep current on work as the content of each class is based on the prior day's concepts. There are usually 3-5 short homework exercises that reinforce concepts from class. I am available every morning before school to answer questions. Please feel free to stop by if you have a question. |
