To tell time for hours after 1 o'clock, use Son las + hour.

2:00 = Son las dos.

For 1 o'clock, use Es la una.

To add minutes after the hour, add y + minutes.

2:23 = Son las dos y veintitrés.

1:19 = Es la una y diecinueve

After the half hour, subtract the minutes from the next hour. Use menos + minutes.

2:35=Son las TRES menos veinticinco. (It's 25 'til 3)

12:49 = Es la UNA menos once. (It's 11 'til 1)

y media = y treinta

y cuarto = y quince

menos cuarto = menos quince

la medianoche = midnight

el mediodía = noon

To tell at what time something happens, use a las + time.

The dance is at 7:00. = El baile es a las siete.

EJEMPLOS:

2:15 = Son las dos y quince or Son las dos y cuarto.

2:30 = Son las dos y treinta or Son las dos y media.

Es la medianoche = It's midnight

Es el mediodía = It's noon

4:10 = Son las cuatro y diez.

7:50 = Son las ocho menos diez.
