Gaiser Middle School offers two foreign languages as options for the advanced students. The classes use the district adopted curriculum, En Español for the Spanish classes and Discovering French Nouveau for the French classes. Our students have a unique advantage in their foreign language study in that they have two years to complete the first year of high school foreign language. The extra year allows us to cover material in more depth than is normally possible in a one year program. This gives our students and edge when they get into high school. Not only are they a year ahead of other freshmen, but they are also one year ahead of the students in the second year language classes. This 2 year course is an introduction to the skills of listening, reading, and writing of the language. Students will be able to demonstrate performance in the target language with a basic understanding of the concepts or required skills. This course may be taken for high school credit and move the student into level II in 9th grade. |
