Instrumental Music

Instrumental Music at Gaiser includes both
band and orchestra for all grades.

Beginner level classes are scheduled as part of the sixth grade elective on an alternating schedule with PE/Dance. Students who are interested in playing a string instrument and gaining knowledge in the fundamentals of music can enroll in Beginning Orchestra. Instruction will be given in reading notes and playing together with others.
Advanced Orchestra is for students who already know how to play the violin, viola, cello, or bass and are ready for more advanced music.
Regular practice and attendance at performances is important.

In keeping with middle school development and philosophy, for most students these are exploratory years where they try instruments as part of a class and for a grade. Our program includes marching, concerts, solo/ensemble opportunities in concerts and a yearly festival. All groups perform three concerts a year, one per trimester. The Concert Band goes to the Middle School Band Festival in March. Both Concert and Intermediate Band march together in the Hazel Dell Parade.
Instrumental music provides opportunities for students to discover new talents, develop new friendships, and be a part of one of the largest teams at Gaiser. Grading is based on participation and progressive improvement. Parental involvement is very important at home, on field trips, and various other activities during the year.
