Associate Principal - Kris Porterfield |
I am a Vancouver native. I was born and raised in Vancouver. I grew up in the Telecaset Heights area on the west side of town. I attended Lincoln Elementary, Shumway Jr. High, and Fort Vancouver High School. I received my BA degree from Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington and began my teaching career in the Evergreen School District in 1973. I was a Special Education teacher in Evergreen for five years before taking a leave from the profession to stay home and raise my two children. In 1987, I returned to teaching as a Learning Support teacher at Eisenhower Elementary. I next transferred to Hazel Dell Elementary where I taught 4 th and 5 th grade for seven years. I also completed graduate work at the University of Portland and received a Masters of Education degree in 1989. In 1994, I accepted a sixth grade position at Gaiser Middle School. I loved teaching 6 th grade here for seven years during which I completed an administrative credential. I also worked as the Intramural Coordinator for four years. I worked for one year as the Data/Literacy Facilitator before moving into my current position as Associate Principal. I consider it a great privilege to work with a dedicated, highly trained staff who has an amazing ability to work together for the benefit of the kids. |
