Four VPS educators earned certification from the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards in 2021. This certification, well-respected in K-12 education, signifies that these educators have met the highest standards in their profession.

Congratulations to VPS’ class of 2021 National Board–certified educators!

  • Wesley Ballou, Roosevelt Elementary School, certified as a Generalist in Middle Childhood
  • Jaime Bassett, McLoughlin Middle School, certified in English as a New Language for Early Adolescence Through Young Adulthood
  • Anthony Shine, Roosevelt Elementary, certified as a Generalist in Early Childhood
  • Trish Smith, Gaiser Middle School, certified in English Language Arts/Early Adolescence

Obtaining certification is a rigorous process that includes a content knowledge assessment and an extensive portfolio. The portfolio demonstrates that candidates can tailor instruction to individual student needs, includes recorded lessons and shows that candidates can reflect on and adapt their teaching practices.
