Protecting local streams is on the minds of students. As part of the annual Students for Clean Water Video Contest, local middle and high schoolers created videos to demonstrate their connections to water and promote everyday actions to prevent pollution. From the videos submitted by 83 Clark County students, works by the following from VPS were selected for prizes and recognition.

  • Roberto Cruz Paredes, Alki Middle School, earned an honorable mention in the Clean Water Actions Long Video category for “Roberto Is Here to Show You.”
  • Connor Smith and Emiliano Jimenez, Gaiser Middle School, earned an honorable mention in the Clean Water Actions Short Video category for “Clean Up Trash.”
  • Ava Teach, Alki Middle School, received an honorable mention in the Community Storytelling category for “My Love for Water.”
  • Jazmin Vasquez and April Ramirez, Gaiser Middle School, took home first place in the BIPOC Filmmaker category for “How to Prevent a Bad Environment.” In the same category, Olivia Morariu received an honorable mention for “Reducing and Reusing to Prevent Pollution.”

Their teachers are Karina Tobin, Gaiser, and Debbie Guymon and Kevin Dotson, Alki.

The winning videos will be shown at movie in the park events this summer.

Stormwater Partners of Southwest Washington is a coalition of local jurisdictions and organizations including Clark County and the cities of Vancouver, Battle Ground, Camas and Washougal.
